Why do Librarians get paid.

Some people as does the librarian get paid? Some people think all the librarian does is sit around and read books? Some people think librarians don't do much of anything. Well THEY ARE WRONG! Who do you think runs the library? It can't run all by itself. Who buys the books? Who buys other supplies?, Who reads to the story hour kids? Who gets the crafts ready? Who gets the books ready for checkout? Who washes the windows [though we should do it more often] and vaccums the floors? All this and more is done by librarians.
And if your from a small library like I am only one or two people do it all. Not only do they do the things listed above but what about planning the summer reading program? Who do you think makes the posters for events? Who types and prints the newsletter? Who has to make the library budget? Who gets the float& kids ready for the parade? Who looks for grants[not many available for small libraries]? I do that's who. All this and more fall into my job discription.
Where in this town is there a place where kids can go that has things they like to do?? Well they can come to the library, they can use the internet, make crafts, listen to stories, I even have Teenagers reading books. Why do I get paid?? Because I do a job you get paid for doing you job don't you?
I do admit that I have some people who do volunteer to help with things here at the library and I am most greatful to them. I don't know what I would do without those few faithful people.
Yes I get paid, Yes I work for my paycheck. Do you want to know how much of my paycheck end up right back here in the library?
This library needs more money and it needs the suport of this city. Please let your local city councel member know that you support giving the library more money.
